Hollywood kingpin gives free lodging in Malibu to fire evacuees

A newly renovated lodging in Malibu, Calif., has opened its doors to area residents evacuated by the raging wildfires and to firefighters.

And David Geffin, the Hollywood mogul (Geffen Records and more) who owns the Malibu Beach Inn, isn't charging them a dime.

"When you see hundreds of firemen working hour after hours, we wanted to do something to show our gratitude," the inn's managing director, Alan Goldschneider, tells me.

The inn, many of whose 47 rooms and suites overlook exclusive Carbon Beach (residents include Goldie Hawn), looks like a lodging beach lovers should check out.

Aside from Geffen's generosity with fire victims, regular rates are decent considering its enviable star-spotting locale: They start at $365. When booking online, you're offered "enhancements" that aren't outrageously priced. A rose petal turndown is $20; a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from a local vineyard is $35.

Well, this is celeb-land after all. The menu does include a $499.50 bottle of 1999 Cristal Champagne.
